The pattern of bone and cartilage damage in the rheumatoid knee.

چکیده
Synovectomy has become a common operation in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis of the knee. The surgeon thus has a unique opportunity to inspect the macroscopical features at various stages of the disease process. In particular the early morphological changes can be studied in fresh material, even before radiological signs have appeared. Fifty consecutive cases of synovectomy of the knee were studied at operation in order to determine whether there is any constant pattern in the changes seen at synovectomy and, if so, to assess how the pattern is related to I) the duration of symptoms in the knee; 2) the macroscopic appearance and volume of the synovium removed; and 3) the presence and type of fibrinous bodies.

متن کاملExperimental Study on Protective Role of NSAID on Articular Cartilage Destruction in Septic Arthritis
Background: Surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of treatment protocols in septic arthritis; however, in some circumstances, the diagnosis and initiation of treatment may be retarded by slow disease progression or the time when the patient’s condition precludes early surgery. Therefore, it is beneficial to find ways to reduce the amount of articular injury. This study a...
متن کاملThe Role of Gene Therapy in Cartilage Repair
The key principle of gene delivery to articulations by direct intra-articular injection is to release complementary DNA(cDNA)-encoding medical products that will lead to maintained, endogenous production of the gene products withinthe articulation. In fact, this has been accomplished for both in vivo and ex vivo gene delivery, using several vectors, genes, and cells in some animal models. Some c...

Histological assessment of intera articular injection of 90Y- hydroxyapatite radiocolloid in enrofloxacin induced rheumatoid arthritis in rat models Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common and disabling diseases in societies that causes chronic synovial inflammation and joint damages. Several pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatments of RA have been developed...
متن کاملCombination of bone marrow derived cells transplantation and high tibial osteotomy in early osteoarthritis of knee: A preliminary study
Purpose: high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a recommended treatment for medial compartment knee osteoarthritis. Newer cartilage regenerative procedures may add benefits to the result of HTO. In this prospective study we investigate safety and also results of HTO associated with bone marrow derived cells (BMDC) transplantation in relatively young and middle aged active individuals with early osteoar...
